About the instructor and platform

Practical HT/HTL exam preparation grounded in laboratory experience

Free HTL Guide was created to help certification candidates organize the major histotechnology domains, understand why laboratory processes work, practice applying the rules, and focus review on weaker areas.

How the platform supports preparation

Move from facts to exam-ready reasoning

Learn the major domains

Lessons cover fixation, processing, embedding and microtomy, staining, laboratory operations, and HTL-level IHC/ISH concepts.

Connect rules to outcomes

Artifacts and troubleshooting are taught as consequences of workflow variables rather than isolated facts to memorize.

Practice and focus review

Original questions, released module quizzes, progress trends, and clearly labeled mock-exam previews help learners understand what is available now and what is being prepared next.

Editorial approach

How the material is developed and maintained

Exam-domain alignment

Topics are organized around major HT and HTL knowledge areas and practical laboratory workflows. Candidates should use the current official ASCP BOC content guideline and eligibility information as the controlling source.

Practical review

Content is checked for internal consistency, expected controls, common artifacts, safety language, and the distinction between general education and a laboratory-specific validated procedure.

Question transparency

Practice questions are original educational items. The 70 base questions are authority-reviewed; 80 alternate scenarios remain in final scientific and editorial review until explicitly approved.

Corrections

Readers can report an error with the page title, exact passage, and supporting source. Material can then be reviewed and revised through the public repository.

Important boundaries

What Free HTL Guide is—and is not

It is

  • An independent HT/HTL exam-preparation platform.
  • A structured review of histotechnology mechanisms and workflow decisions.
  • A source of original practice questions and educational tools.
  • A growing project with visible review and correction pathways.

It is not

  • An official ASCP or ASCP BOC publication.
  • A guarantee of examination passage or professional competence.
  • A source of official examination questions.
  • A replacement for validated laboratory SOPs, safety programs, or professional judgment.
