Free HTL Guide is an independent educational website that organizes histology concepts into structured lessons, original quizzes, a six-week study plan, cumulative practice, and printable resources for HT and HTL candidates.
Is this an official ASCP website?
No. Free HTL Guide is not affiliated with or endorsed by ASCP or the ASCP Board of Certification. Use it alongside the current official examination content guideline, eligibility information, and candidate resources.
What is the difference between HT and HTL preparation?
Both require strong core histotechnology knowledge. HTL preparation generally adds greater depth in troubleshooting, laboratory operations, validation, quality systems, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, and complex method evaluation.
Which modules are currently available?
The complete current curriculum includes Fixation; Processing and Decalcification; Embedding and Microtomy; Routine H&E; Special Stains; Laboratory Operations; and the HTL extension, IHC and ISH Fundamentals.
Does the site include quizzes and practice?
Yes. Every subject module includes ten original questions with immediate explanations. The cumulative practice page adds mixed review and a locally saved missed-question log. A longer timed mock-exam system is planned for a later development layer.
Do I need laboratory access?
No. You can use the lessons, quizzes, study plan, notes, and downloads without laboratory access. Supervised bench practice can reinforce the material when it is available.
How should I study the modules?
Follow the six-week study plan or open a weak subject directly. After each lesson, complete the quiz, read every explanation, record missed-question rules, and return to the topic until you can explain the reasoning without notes.
Are the downloads free?
Yes. The current PDFs and download bundles are available as free study and bench-reference tools. Adapt any template to your validated local procedure before laboratory use.
Can I use the material as a laboratory procedure?
No. Educational guidance does not replace your laboratory’s validated SOPs, safety requirements, manufacturer instructions, quality system, regulatory obligations, or supervisory guidance.
